“Love is the Fulfilling of the Law”

What a great privilege, especially during the Christmas season, to be in this Circle of Christhood that encompasses the world! Today’s lesson is based on the quote for this week’s world work: “Love is the fulfillment of the Law. As we entertain more love of God, we entertain more love of our fellowman and we have less room in our consciousness for judgment, criticism and condemnation. We come into oneness with God in unity with man. Then it is that we are loving our neighbor as ourselves and we are fulfilling the law of Love.”
What is the law of God that is to be fulfilled? Jesus tells us, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength,” and “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” In practical application, how do we live it? There is a spiritual thread that runs through the Bible, and every great prophet and leader has known this spiritual principal. It was revealed by Moses when he turned aside to see the burning bush, and is interpreted in our Bible with the words “I Am That I Am.” Moses’ experience was probably without words or thoughts. It was an awareness of the totality of existence as he was at that moment – it is translated in Aramaic as “Existence aware of Itself.” That is important because the “I” to us is very personal and identified with the body. But when we identify “I” as “Existence aware of Itself,” It fills all space. This Existence that is expressing Itself, living Itself, loving Itself, being Itself is what we call Christ. It is the Essence of our being, the Life of our being, the Love of our being, and the Law of our being. In other words, we are not an isolated little form left to struggle and to find fulfillment and a place for ourselves. Life is God fulfilling Itself as an individual experience.

During this Holiday Season, as we ponder the meaning of Christmas, Christ is born again in each of us. This gift of Love we celebrate not as an event in time or space, but as a timeless reality of Being.

Let us keep this sacred trust by daily rejoicing that our name is “written in Heaven,” and that we are children of God, joint heirs with Christ to all the heavenly riches: peace, love, joy, and abundant grace. These riches cannot be bought – they are the gifs of God.
